The IMMD ( www.immd.de) based in Berlin, Germany is a leading Laboratory providing tests for genetic diseases to physicians and clinics, as well as the general public. It was founded in 1994, and since 1995 provides genetic tests for the medical and health care sector. We currently employ 30 persons in Berlin, and run branches in Leipzig, Potsdam, Hamburg and Rostock, and in Kiev.

IMMD now plans to open a branch in the heart of Moscow. Here, fully trained medical geneticists will provide genetic counselling and all kinds of genetic analysis for the general publics as well as for clinics. Any individual  seeking an advice with respect to questions related to inherited diseases, to a specific genetic test or a chromosome analysis will meet here in Moscow our experts for an individual consultation. Of particular interest will be our genetic couselling service for women during pregnancy.

This “IMMD Counselling Unit-Moscow” (IMMD-Moscow) will be closely tied to our home laboratory, where all analysis will be performed.

In order to set up “IMMD-Moscow”, we would like to hire MDs in Human Genetics who live in Moscow.
 
The tests developed by IMMD are being conducted in accordance to the recommendations and guidelines of the American and German Societies of Human Genetics and to the German health insurance companies. The IMMD - tests are being regularly proved in national and European quality control inspections which are surveyed by an external review committee. All tests developed by IMMD are validated and internally certified.

 The IMMD combines extensive experience in genetic testing under routine clinical conditions with the application of most advanced DNA technologies. This gives us the capacity to identify disease causing gene alterations with highest possible specificity and sensitivity and to provide diagnostic and therapeutic recommendations through the clinical reports of our Medical Doctors for Human Genetics.

Genetic tests developed by the IMMD are based on a proprietary technology for the analysis of DNA which is extracted from paper-dried blood spots ("Blood Stain Paper"). For this procedure small amounts of blood are dried on special test-paper. These samples can be conveniently obtained from patients in a primary care facility or even at home. The "Blood Stain Paper" might then be sent by regular mail to our laboratory.

Early detection of a genetic predisposition and assessment of the risk for developing a disease is possible if an appropriate genetic test is available. Therefore, a decision to ask for a test implies very often the desire to know what might happen in the future, how to live with this knowledge, and whether to take appropriate measures.

A core method for genetic analysis is cytogenetics, which is offered by IMMD for prenatal, postnatal, and tumor diagnosis using most advanced techniques such as FISH and M-FISH.
