This role presents a fantastic opportunity for the successful candidate to collaborate on complex and rewarding matters, becoming part of a dynamic, high-performing, and geographically diverse legal team, while reporting directly to the General Counsel, EMEA. The position is based in our Orica Kazakhstan office in Almaty.

What you will be doing

• Provide independent, timely, and high-quality legal support for Central Asia, focusing on solutions that are risk-based and cost-effective;
• Manage the delivery of legal services by both internal and external legal counsel within Central Asia;
• Assist in developing strategies and managing litigation and dispute resolution processes for Central Asia;
• Oversee the negotiation and finalization of legal documents;
• Support the implementation of Orica’s contracts management policies, procedures, and systems within Central Asia;
• Monitor key laws and emerging legislation that impact the business;
• Keep relevant personnel informed of legal developments affecting their areas of responsibility and suggest preventive measures to minimize legal risks and liabilities;
• Manage legal aspects of acquisitions, divestments, joint ventures, and major customer contracts as needed;
• Support the development and maintenance of effective compliance with corporate governance policies and standards in Central Asia, including Orica's Code of Conduct and Corporate Compliance Group Standards (addressing anti-bribery and corruption, competition law compliance, trade sanctions, and anti-money laundering).
• Ensure Orica’s compliance with the laws and regulations of the jurisdictions in which it operates and adhere to Orica's group policies, standards, and procedures.

What you will bring

• Relevant tertiary qualification in Law;
• Admitted to practice Law;
• A minimum of 5-6 years of post-qualification experience, including a mix of private practice and in-house roles (experience in the mining or extraction sector is desirable);
• Experience working across all regions in Kazakhstan (experience in other jurisdictions is desirable);
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
• Proven ability to influence at all organizational levels;
• Experience handling complex legal issues in a dynamic commercial environment;
• Proficiency in languages other than English and Russian, especially Kazakh, will be highly valued.​​​​​​​
