Moodle Backend Developer (PHP)

Job Description:

As a Senior Totara Backend Developer, you will be responsible for the design, development, and maintenance of backend systems that enhance and expand the capabilities of Moodle/Totara LMS. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand client requirements and translate them into robust, scalable backend solutions. Your expertise will be vital in ensuring seamless integration, customization, and optimization of the LMS to meet client needs.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and customize Moodle/Totara LMS backend functionalities to align with project requirements.
• Write clean, scalable, and maintainable code in PHP and other relevant technologies.
• Collaborate with front-end developers, UX/UI designers, and product managers to create cohesive solutions.
• Integrate third-party services and plugins to expand the LMS's capabilities.
• Optimize the performance and security of the LMS platform.
• Troubleshoot and resolve technical issues related to the backend.
• Maintain thorough documentation of code, processes, and integrations.
• Stay updated on the latest trends and best practices in LMS development and related technologies.

Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent work experience).
• 5+ years of experience as a backend developer, with at least 3 years working specifically with PHP
• Strong proficiency in PHP, MySQL, and other relevant backend technologies.
• Experience with version control systems like Git.
• Familiarity with Linux server environments and deployment practices.
• Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
• Knowledge of data protection regulations and best practices for LMS security.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with cloud services such as AWS or Azure.
• Familiarity with agile development methodologies.
• Prior experience in the eLearning industry or developing education technology platforms.
