We are seeking a flexible and versatile professional for the role of Assistant to the Director of Finance and Operations. The Assistant will assist the Director in all projects and will oversee various finance-related activities at Haileybury Astana.

Type of contract: Temporary (Maternity Cover)

Start date: November, 2024

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare internal reporting forms for analysis and management decisions, including calculations and justifications.

  • Ensure the accuracy of the Profit and Loss (P&L) statement by matching costs to revenue and recording them correctly. Deliver statements on time.

  • Reconcile balance sheets and financial statement reports for accuracy.

  • Oversee capital asset projects to ensure alignment with school goals.

  • Manage the 1C accounting system or equivalent to maintain financial records.

  • Oversee document workflow in the accounting system for efficiency.

  • Ensure all applicable taxes are current and properly managed.

  • Maintain compliance with local operating procedures and regulations.

  • Accurately document profits and losses.

  • Ensure that property permits, licenses, and vendor contracts are current.

  • Submit reports on time, adhering to deadlines.

  • Advise the Director on operational and financial issues.

  • Provide relevant information to colleagues through various communication methods.

  • Assist other units with accounting and budgeting policies and financial resource management.

  • Communicate financial concepts clearly to foster understanding.

  • Attend meetings to review financial information with the management team.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director to meet business needs.

  • Assume the Director’s responsibilities during their absence to ensure continuity.

Requirements:

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field (4 years).

  • At least 3 years of experience in finance or accounting.

  • Experience in a Big 4 accounting firm is a plus

  • Preferably an ACCA or DipIFR student/member

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Ability to perform bookkeeping procedures, use financial systems technology, and accurately complete general ledger entries

  • Knowledge of database structures for financial queries and cash flow statement preparation.

  • Familiarity with normative legal acts and methodological materials on planning, accounting, and analysis.

  • Proficient in Excel and the 1C accounting system.

  • Knowledge of applicable financial practices and state and federal regulations.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • Ability to build collaborative relationships to achieve work goals.

  • Upper-intermediate proficiency in English.
